Canon HV-20 is becoming a blessing for all the filmmakers around the world. The main problem with the small budget minidv camcorder intended for filmmaking is that it can't records at 30 fps(frame per second) while the professional digital film cameras operates at 24fps.It is this major difference which makes normal camcorder recording giving a mundane and non film look.
The thing is that when a camera records at 30fps it skips some intermediate frames giving a slight lower movement of frames and hence providing a softer film look which looks beautiful.whether you are making a movie to be released in theaters or not , but you will always want it to look good when someone watches it on his pc atleast.Canon HV-20 is the cheapest camera in the whole world to record at 24fps.
The High definition advantage also makes it simple for your work to be converted into films when you want it.And last but not the least it comes with a price tag of $1000.In india currently it is coming at a price of rs. 85,000.
Lets see when other brands make a foray into this small budget filmmaking camera market.

प्लान
What u should do if you wanna seriously jump into troubled water.
Five year ago if anyone have thought of becoming a director and thought of giving a try to this serious entertainment business , he could have end up spending all the money which his father has earned in his lifetime and could have waited for the results as if it is going to decide his fate in life. And once he gets failed (As the chances were 99%) he could have been transformed into a subject for another film maker. But now the things are not this way today. There are numerous ways to showcase yourself to the world without worrying much about the bank accounts.
I think before going for a longer version of the film , one should go for shorter versions i.e 5-10 minutes films . The gud things about these kinda flicks is that once you will post these stuffs on youtube , the gud ones will automatically find popularity and rise up the chart on you tube. There are many filters like rating , number of views and comments which popularize ur videos in a very short span of time and you will get to know what u lack and what u r capable of. People add these videos in their favourite videos on orkut and thus they add to more popularity of your videos. The thing is that U will not get any sort of money or awards for ur work thru utube , but the real thing will be the appreciation and comments which will help in clearing out ur goals and boosting ur confidence to a level for initiation of the big full length film project.
Once u make up your mind for a full length feature film project , its necessary to do the budgeting for ur project about , the type of camera u r going to use , sets , costumes and amount to be paid to the actors. Now the things can get real messy if u start thinking that i am not going to compromise the quality of my movie for money. It is the best myth of the world that high budget creates gud movies. It may happen that huge budget films have been successful films in the past , but they r only required for a particular genre of films. Films like war films , sci-fi movies or historical movies are the kind of movies requiring gr8 budget for them . But if wanna make a gud movie u can bend ur scripts and can keep ur storyline in such a way that money don't come in the way of ur creation , then it is 99.99% sure that low budget will not be responsible for the destruction of ur project.
The first and most important thing to be decided is the camera. Now this is a very serious issue as u will say that i m contradicting my own statement. But camera is the eye through which u see the art of cinema. Lack of proper costumes can be managed . Lack fo gud actors can be managed by a 100 retakes. Lack of a dubbing studio can be managed by dubbing the dialogues at 3'0 clock in the morning.Lack of a proper editing system can be managed by compromising with a slower one. But once u shoot ur child in a minidv handycam u can't convert it into a 24fps HIGH DEFINITION camera. Ur film will have the restarint to be submitted only at film festivals who accepts films shot on Mini-Dv cam an it will be nearly impossible in terms of costs and other things to one day see it in theatres.
So, The thing is if u r seriously in such a condition that u can't afford buying a 24fps HIGH DEFINITION camera for around 2 lackhs, U can go for a minidv handycam dreaming that even if ur film doesn't find a place at theatres u r going to find a huge acclaim and a lot of media attention for ur work at the film festivals.

These films were made from a sony cybershot camera and edited using window movie maker. These films taught me one thing for sure that in the world of creativity content does matter irespective of the constraint of resources. I decided to make a film and submit to the film festival , But after doing a lot of research i found out that even if you don't pay a single penny to any of the actor making a full length feature film and submitting to a film festival is a costly affair atleast in india where film festivals are still not very much influenced by Digital film making which is currently giving hopes to lot of poor creators around the world.
IFFI Goa and Kolkata film festivals only accepts film prints and thus it becomes nearly impossible if you lack funds. But i am sure the days are not far when Digital cinema theatres will engulf the world and it will cost you only INR 2,00,000 to unleash ur creativity. And this will happen befor 2010 for sure. These days will not be the day of sanjay leela bhansali but will be of Persons like Dibakar banerjee(Khosla ka ghonsla). The indian viewer will no more be seeing films with lavish costumes and expensive sets but will appreciate films made under one roof with tiny budget embedding human emotions beautifully.
